Jose Rosas Huallpa

"For me, [art] is a form of language – it is that which we sometimes cannot express in words. I try to transmit sensuality through color, and our emotional strength."
José Rosas Huallpa was born in Puno on August 27, 1967 and began his formal art studies at the prestigious and highly competitive National School of Fine Arts in Lima. He rounded out his formal training under the tutelage of Maria Parado de Bellido, and began his career as an art teacher before becoming a professional artist.
"I seek the furrows of a freshly plowed field, the abundant vegetation of the Peruvian hills with its lakes and landscapes," Huallpa says. He depicts a long mountain plateau in fiery colors as it stretches to meet a pale blue sky. Applications of glue and sand add texture to the work, techniques that he also employs in his sensuous figurative work.
The depth of his talent is evident in the range of his many painting styles. He also paints whimsical children’s work that captures the playfulness and joy of childhood and displays his imagination and love of color.
"I've been dedicated to the world of art since I was a schoolboy,” he adds. “ My work is a constant searching, motivated by a desire to continue expressing art. For me, it is a form of language – it is that which we sometimes cannot express in words. I try to transmit sensuality through color, and our emotional strength.”
Huallpa’s work has been featured at dozens of exhibitions in both Latin and North America, including the Government Palace and the Museo de la Nación in Peru. His paintings have been awarded numerous prizes, and he has developed an avid following in both Latin America and the United States.
